I’ve known this family for about two years. Eliza contacted me to photograph her maternity and newborn session for her third baby born two years ago. In between then I’ve photographed her family numerous times for mother’s day sessions, father’s day sessions, family sessions, some fun holiday sessions etc. I was super excited to photograph their newest little lady’s entrance into this world (well I met her at 45 minutes old 😉 … long story that involves a truck and one of the most interesting phone calls of my life!
Knowing this little lady’s mama the last few years I know that she’s an avid horse lover and rider. It just so happens that a week before Baby B arrived my inlaws found me this rocking horse. I just KNEW I had to surprise Eliza with this prop! (Big brother we incorporated a ride on tractor into his session so I knew this would fit right in!) Baby B made me work for it throughout our session but I was so so glad I had patience and just waited for the deep sleep she eventually ended up in so we could get her on her first pony ride! (Please not the rocking horse shot is heavily photoshopped in that Mama’s hands NEVER left B while she was on the horse. Newborn posing safety is on the top of my priority list! Please do not let anyone pose your newborn on a prop without proper spotting, support or safety!)
We photographed our little cowgirl on two separate sessions. While the studio has a few things for siblings (Netflix, Hulu, a few toys and the ever passing train) sometimes it’s much easier for parents to spend about 2 hours at the studio with just the newborn and then return for about 30-45 minutes for the parent/sibling/family portion. Typically either option is available for families and it’s really what you’re able to do and prefer! Both have certainly worked!
PS I’ve photographed these kiddos about 6 times. They have always been a breeze so I was due for a session where they made me earn my keep 😉 I’ll let you in on a trade secret….Under each kiddo over 2 is hidden a candy cane haha!
